To encourage families to use the Tamar Valley Line, Looe Valley Line and Maritime Line during the February half-term holidays, the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership runs a promotion with Great Western Railway (GWR) that allows children accompanied by an adult to travel free if they bring a teddy bear with them on their journey.

The key to the campaign is its simplicity. The project requires no paperwork or time-consuming bureaucracy, with staff simply allowing children to travel without a ticket during the duration of the promotion.
Publicised through station posters, the local press and social media, the project began on the Tamar Valley Line and Looe Valley Line in 2015. It was a big success – leading to some extremely busy trains, packed with families. In 2016, the promotion was extended to cover the Maritime Line too.
